Neil McFee Skinner papers 1929-1944

Neil McFee Skinner was a theater manager and producer. Collection consists of correspondence and financial records of Skinner and his wife, Edith Warman Skinner, relating to their activities at the Wharf Theatre in Provincetown, Mass., and the Martha's Vineyard Playhouse, Mass. Included among the financial records are account books, travel expense notebooks, payroll and financial logs, treasurer's statement of the Wharf Theatre, bills, receipts, bill of sale, insurance policies, stock certificate, contracts, and bills. Also, clippings, articles, stage bills, circulars, tickets, employment and admission applications, resumes, examination books, notes, and an issue of Chamberlain Brown's Theatre Record (1938).

Edith Warman Skinner was born on September 22, 1902 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the third of four daughters of Herbert Havelock Warman and Agnes Lynn (Orr) Warman. After graduating from high school, Edith moved to the United States and began working at the Beechwood School for Girls in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. In 1923, she graduated from the Leland Powers School for the Spoken Word in Boston. While there, she met Margaret Prendergast McLean, disciple of phonetician William Tilly....
